The photos were taken between 1985 and 1990, while Mr. Kotula was employed by the National Marine Fisheries Service. He worked aboard these factory ships as an observer, taking full advantage of an extraordinary experience by putting his camera to work.

There will be a reception with Mr. Kotula at the museum from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 23. The reception is open to the public.

The Main Street Gallery of the Penobscot Marine Museum is at 40 East Main Street in Searsport.
